Cardboard Boxer. Thanks for the name Corbin!

Inspired by the likes of the beetleweight "Cereal Killer" and the pizza box bots that showed up at UCR, here's a fairyweight smothering cardboard bot. The lid lifts up and down, which can smother opponents when caught in the box. In all seriousness, this was something I threw together in an hour the week of competition. I didn't expect to win anything but the hearts of the audience (Boxer earned that like the puppy he is!)

EVENT 1: UCR Summer Slaughter (1-5 record)

BUILD NOTES: Thrown together in about an hour. I wanted to use spare parts, which included 2 N10 motors, a Repeat Ant DESC, a 2s 300mAH battery, and the chunky receiver that comes with flysky remotes. Wheels were Polulu 40mm ones that are press fit onto the motor shafts. I zip-tied the motors onto the cardboard floor, cut out wheel wells for the wheels, and super-glued some spare cardboard to make a wall to keep opponents out. I also realized I had a tiny servo, so I zip-tied that to the back wall of the box to open the lid. Gravity kept the lid down, and the servo arm would push up on the lid to open it.

Competition was pretty fun! Boxer drives pretty cleanly for 2WD, and he won the crowd whenever he got a pin, and "chowed down" on his new friend. The problem was he had absolutely no ground game, and I doubt the drivetrain would outpush the TPU wedgebots he faced. Most of those bots would get enveloped, but could slip under the body of the bot. In its single win, Boxer managed to catch its opponent by the side and pin it 6 times.

Durability was...surprising. There were only two spinner bots at the event, the mini-drum spinner Mitosis and the champion vertical spinner Splinter. Against Mitosis, the cardboard on the bottom could survive getting hit by the spinner, while any vertical walls would eventually get punched through. In the main competition, I forfeited against splinter to save it for its future fights. I did fight splinter in the rumble, where the cardboard got absolutely shredded by Splinter's vert. The end of the rumble was highlighted as Splinter trying to "scalp" the top plate off of Boxer, that monster.

BOXER V2: Set to compete at Smashbot's 10/25 event, Boxer will be set on a Tegris and TPU diet, as well as some lighterweight components. I'm also playing with the idea of adding a small spinner inside the mouth to give him more bite.
